Independence day celebrations at Indigo have always been exciting. But this year, we decided to break away from the regular song competitions, and made some out-of-the-ordinary alterations to the celebrations! Everyone dressed in their traditional best, and the office was decorated (under Pragati’s truncheon!) – tri coloured balloons and dupattas and pictures of freedom fighters adorned the stage and set the mood. all.jpgThe evening started with a performance on “Ai mere watan ke logon” by Jyoti, Priti, Anuya, Sonal and Fatema. It was not only a moving dance performance (with Jyoti at her emoting best!), but the preparations – the banners, flags, diyas – were also very impressive.danceA quick discussion on a very relevant issue – Global Warming and its effects – followed, with Pragati laying down some action points as our contribution in helping minimize the effects in our own small ways. So lights out for an hour a day during lunch, and penalties for wasteful computer usage are keeping us on our toes these days!Bijlee BachaoNext, the PLP team sang a tribute to Maharashtra, and it was interesting to see Murtaza struggling with Marathi lyrics, but enjoying himself thoroughly.A quiz on India revealed Suraj, Satwick and Shuvayu to be true Indians knowing answers to most trivia on India. Dean, of course, proved to be a pucca Goan with answers like the “national bird of India” is the “chicken” and the “religion city” is “Goa”! A grilling session of “Indigo ke Janta ki Adalat” followed, with hapless victims being put on trial for their most peculiar habits. Those foult guilty in the adalat were given various punishments:

  • Vijay Shelke was made to laugh
  • Nilesh was made to cry!
  • Sonal promised to never forget attachments in mails (a real tough punishment, this!)
  • Jyoti cannot shop for a month
  • Devang pledged to organise frequent and regular picnics!

and last but not the least…

  • Satwick will spend less time on the phone!!

Vikas was sorely missed because he is one “criminal” we would have all loved to see on trial!sonal.JPG The evening ended with some good old chaat snacks…pani puri, dahi puri, sev puri…yum! All in all, a great evening celebrated in true Indian spirit, with all coming together for causes that matter, in a fun-filled way.
