It was philanthropy partly for the self, and partly for the thalassemia children, for whose benefit we donated blood on the 17th of May, 2008.

At Dadar station, our Creative Director, Pragati, came across a blood donation camp and donated blood instinctively. Seeing the blood bank’s genuine, dire need she volunteered to organise a camp at our premises.

And so began the preparations for the first blood donation camp in the premises of Indigo Consulting. Explaining, convincing, cajoling (and at times even threatening), we managed to enlist most of our employees. All the neighbouring companies were contacted, several promised to send volunteers. Listing down names of donors to sending follow up mails, enthusiasm was evidently simmering for the act. Banners were put up at Adhyaru building compound, welcoming everyone to take part.

On D day, 17th May 08, our conference room was swiftly converted into the blood donation camp. Very systematically, without any chaos, the donors showed their support for the cause by donating blood. A few had to be turned back disappointed because they didn’t meet the criteria (better luck next time). We had several donors from other offices too, some neighbors, some who came from far.

Indigoites went back to work soon after they were done, with humility and pride running through their blood.

For some it was the first time, while for some it was just another noble act.

Everyone got a blood report (yaa…some didn’t know what blood group they were donating, but their spirit was known  :)   a certificate and loads of blessings in disguise!

Sipping chai and munching on biscuits (Mangola and a lot of fussing over for the few who came close to fainting), it felt good to have parted with something precious of your own to somebody unknown. The feeling that ‘someone will live a little longer because of the blood I have given’ was almost enviable.

Looking forward to more such camps…

P.S. The foundation – Sarla Blood bank, a Regional Blood Transfusion Centre that runs Sahayog trust which provides free blood to thalassemia Children sent us a thank you note. Well, thank you for giving us an opportunity to have made a difference to someone’s life.
