Here it goes, my very first review of a movie on Mood Indigo or lets say anywhere.
This week I went to see a movie called “Feast of Love? directed by Robert Benton. I hope you have heard about this because some of my colleagues here were really surprised. The movie starts with Harry Stevenson’s (Morgan Freeman) observation on how humans were invented because Greek gods must have been bored and when they were still bored, they invented love, which was not boring, so they tried it. And finally to stand love they invented laughter.
The question asked ‘Is love just nature’s plot to give us lots of babies, or is it the only thing that gives our crazy lives any meaning?’
Harry is a semi-retired professor living in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Esther (Jane Alexander) and spends most part of his day in a coffee-shop called ‘Jitters’. ‘Jitters’ is owned by his friend Bradley (Greg Kinnear). Bradley is happily married to Kathryn (Selma Blair). Atleast that’s what he thinks as not long afterward Kathryn storms out of the house to live with Jenny (Stana Katic). Bradley is overwhelmed with not her leaving but her leaving him for another woman.
Even after Bradley’s eyes have been opened, he goes on to repeat the same mistake. This time he meets and marries Diana (Radha Mitchell), a beautiful real estate agent. The twist, Diana is seeing a married man (Billy Burke) who is too hot to give up and promptly goes back in his arms when he divorcees his wife.
Another parallel storyline is about Oscar (Toby Hemingway),who works in ‘Jitters’ and falls in love with Chloe (Alexa Davalos), a new girl in town the moment she enters the coffee shop asking for a job. A perfect couple and a love story that ends when Oscar suddenly dies leaving Chole pregnant.
Feast of Love gives you a glimpse of different types of loves that exist. The drama is laid back. Though the script is not that great; the torments and triumphs of the characters touch your heart.
I feel the movie will appeal more to women than men, but there’s something in this for anyone who’s in a relationship, recovering from a bad relationship, or ready to take on a new one.
